Welcome to the Midwest Smart & Efficient Manufacturing Hub

What is the Midwest Smart & Efficient Manufacturing Hub?

The Midwest Smart & Efficient Manufacturing Hub is a collaborative network created through a Department of Energy-funded pilot program to accelerate the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies for energy efficiency across Midwest manufacturing facilities. Our mission is to lead the region toward smarter, energy-efficient manufacturing, revitalizing facilities and enhancing productivity while ushering in a more robust and diverse workforce equipped for this transformation. As a central resource, we provide training, tools, and support to manufacturers, stakeholders, and energy efficiency organizations dedicated to building a sustainable, high-performing manufacturing sector.

Why Smart Manufacturing?

What is the Goal of the Pilot Program?

The Midwest Smart & Efficient Manufacturing Hub Pilot Program is designed to advance smart energy management across the Midwest manufacturing sector by promoting cutting-edge smart manufacturing technologies. This pilot is committed to strengthening workforce diversity by expanding access to opportunities for underrepresented groups and underserved communities. Through targeted training, resources, and technical support, the Hub plans to equip 50 small to medium-sized manufacturers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky with the tools to excel in smart energy management. By demonstrating the success of our training and technical assistance framework, we aim to create a model that can expand throughout the Midwest and nationwide. Additionally, the pilot seeks to build a robust network of stakeholders—including manufacturers, industry associations, government agencies, utilities, and energy service providers—to drive collaborative advancements in smart manufacturing across the region.

Who’s Behind This?

The Midwest Smart & Efficient Manufacturing Hub is a collaboration between the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, APTIM and four Department of Energy Industrial Assessment Centers. This pilot project is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office.
